to hard to believe what you are looking for...

so in a 'wake up the beast' fashion it seems midtown is getting woken up?

well this video that the band posted today seems to well show rob listening to a midtown b-side

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

now it might not seem significant (which in all actuality it could mean nothing) but a few memebers have mentioned the idea of releasing a b-side and a final tour, not show.

the only downside to this is, is the whole fall out boy, academy is..., copeland website thing that links to a pic of something midtown-ish which links to midtown's merch store... which could hint at a possible tour? or just the academy is... hyping the ballad off their new album which ironically enough is called 'after the last midtown show'. i mean the pic DOES have lyrics to the song under it...

still this is all quite exciting to maybe just maybe see things happening. it seems like if this all does happen it wont be till winter/spring... bamboozle 2009? hopefully not, and we get a string of shows in clubs.

this is like a huge puzzle that i'm either looking way too into or maybe i am on the right path... i do know i want to get my hands on that b-side. personally i say to you pete wentz (yes you) release the song and some other midtown b-sides as a ep on cd and vinyl, and give them some funds to go on the road. i mean you did this with lifetime, who influced midtown, who influenced you. win win eh?

MGMT oracular spectacular review

MGMT is one of those bands i've heard soo much hype about for quite a long time so i decided to finally cave in and give them a shot.

the album kicks off with the single 'time to pretend' which i'm sure everyone has heard before. its for sure a good, very catchy song but me being the electro geek that i am noticed something... the song is almost EXACTLY like the 2003 song 'perfect sound always' by girlsareshort. similarities include: intro, which comes into snyth line aka the real hook of the song, then goes into the almost exact drum beat (different tone on drums) with heavy snyths over it with some sort of solo at the end. i wont knock originality too much on this album because they do produce some strange nice melodies and noises. the higher duel vocals is almost girlsareshort-ish as well. the thing with this album that i noticed is none of the songs accept for 2 of them really jump out at me the rest are just kinda there, nothing super memorable. still the album has some pretty cool layers of synths as well as good guitarwork in parts. but again they should have used a drum machine that not everyone and their mom has sampled...

maybe this will grow on me after a few listens but who knows. i'm not exactly blown away after my first listen as most people are by it, or maybe its because they don't listen to a ton of electro. either way i'm seeing them in less than a month with justice. we'll see if the live show really grabs me and makes me appreciate the album more.

final score- 6.1/10

chromeo and matt pryor reviews

more music more reviews!

chromeo- fancy footwork

chormeo is one of those bands ive heard of via the remix. i swear their songs have been remixed by everyone.. so when i came across the album i decided to give it a try.

right off the bat its pretty obvious why all these songs got remixed. its just dancey poppy almost cheesy layers super synths and trust me the lyrics and samples reflect the music. with all of that said you would think it would be super boring, but somehow it all works. if you like kraftwerk you'll love this album, the influence on chormeo is just undeniable and this shows it. plus if you like 80's synth pop (minus the singing this reminds me of a flock of seagulls) this is kinda like the modern day form of it.

maybe i'm just a sucker for pop electro with tons of synths but this is definitely something pretty cool (not necessarily original...) and you don't need to be a huge hipster to enjoy.

the bonus album titled fancier footwork is mostly all the remixes ive heard before and some b-sides. all of it is a pretty interesting time. i feel like chormeo might get bunched in with the other 100000 synth pop bands who are coming out of the wood work but if anything if the album of originals gets overlooked they can produce some songs to remix.

ill score it 7.8/10, this is awesome now thats it new to me but i think it will get old in about a month, still it's a solid album.

matt pryor -confidence man

don't get me wrong but i got nothing wrong with former pop punk-emo frontmen shedding their power-cord past for something folkish but keeping the songs memorable is the tricky part. for those who don't know matt was the singer/guitar of the get up kids and now fronts the new amsterdam's. if you've kept up with matt you'll see his evolving in terms of going for more and more folk-ish music and on confidence man it's mostly just matt and a guitar with some occasional percussion.

the songs them self are pretty enjoyable folky songs and almost soothing to a point. but as i said above matt kinda fell short in terms of keeping the songs memorable. the songs are just kinda... there. it seems like that's the case with all of these frontmen going solo or acoustic. these projects never have the magic of their old bands, and they wonder why people yell out old songs for them to play. another thing is matt has a pretty raspy voice that just dont match the music very well unless they layered his vocals. but then again i'm not used to matt being somewhat quiet.

i'm not saying this is bad at all, i just dont see myself listening to this as much as.. a get up kids album. matt is a very talented guy but i feel like on this he's just gone in the graveyard of 'front men who went solo and made the enjoyable album to listen to occasionally but fans will like his older stuff much more.'

ill score it 6/10... i'm gonna put on a guk album.

i want to do the girlsareshort video, but no time. i'll bang it out. i promise!

the biggest decision of my life

i got one month to figure out where i'm going to college and every second the clock keeps ticking. i've pretty much narrowed down my choices to: the new school, and the new york film academy. both of which are in new york city. moving to the biggest city on earth basically is going to be a huge change but one i've waiting a very long time to make. unfortunately deciding where i want go is proving to the the problem. both schools have pros and cons and i got to weigh them and figure out where i want to go....

ny film
pros: i'll graduate faster, admission process is a lot easier, the degree is highly accepted in the film industry.
cons: i'll be gone for two years straight, housing is off campus so i'm basically to look for a apartment in nyc... but the school does help but not having like a meal plan or a solid place to live like a dorm or something kinda sucks, the degree i get from the school is NOT a bachelors... i'd have to go to like st. johns to get one in tv media or something fancy like that.

new school:
pros: normal college school year, awesome dorms, highly regarded school, price is not bad (for nyc), excellent location (the village)
cons: i'll be there 3-4 years to graduate which would fine if i was 18 but i'm 21 and when i start ill be 22 by the end of the semester, ill graduate when i'm like 25. admission process sounds like they want my soul on paper.

there is a ton more pros and cons for both school but those are the ones i can think of right now.. and i got like 10000000 things on my mind related to this right now. honestly i'm leaning more tward the new school, it seems more me the nyfa which don't get wrong is a great school but the housing situation dont seem concrete enough for me. i don't know.

i'm going down i hope in sept to figure it all out and 'get it together', ironically enough one essay for new school is about one piece of art whether it be film, movie, painting, or music. i'm writing my essay on 'forget what you know' by midtown. no album or anything really has had the influence and personal impact on me like that album.

all in all wish me luck, i feel if i dont pull the trigger on something soon i'll be stuck here forever and i dont want that.
