mustache march

i've never been more excited for new music (like coming/came out in the next few weeks) than now. why? a handful of solid albums (seriously) have been released. i don't exactly have time to review any of them but i can give you a quick rundown in this time i spend contemplating doing work.

past lives- tapestry of webs: ex blood brothers. dark experimental and just a real solid album. it takes multiple listens to fully grasp. i know after my first spin i didn't know if it was boring or really what i just heard. but alas i get it now and wow blown away.

jaguar love- hologram jams: sticking with the ex blood brothers theme. basically if you take the blood brothers and somehow made it a dance electro album with johnny singing/screaming i suppose this would be it. as i suspected after hearing all the songs live in december the album is real hit or miss in spots. still, compared to most 'electro' out there this is a solid effort and one fun live show.

ted leo and the pharmacists- the brutalist bricks: all i can say for this one is wow. fantastic. ted and the crew once again produce one fantastic record. if living with the living was not your thing (which as much as i loved it at first i only really listen to a handfull of songs off it) this album is for sure ted at his finest. the flow of the album is what i find the most attractive about it, no real standout 'singles' per say but at the same time all of the songs are so solid you need to listen to the whole album front to back.

four year strong- enemy of the world: i will admit this whole new wave of pop-punk/hardcore hybrid bands is getting stale. the whole idea of kids throwing down to a pop punk band at shows is something i'll never fully understand. however this album like its predecessor is really, really, catchy. heavy in parts but at the same time more accessible than their earlier material. the vocals (not the lyrics at all i feel like they took lines from other pop punk/90s songs) are the strong point to the album. like set your goals before them the sophomore slump is once again avoided with a solid album. still as much as i like syg and fys i feel like this 'scene' i slowly fading away.

whats even better? i get to see/saw all of these bands in the upcoming weeks. really excited to hear these albums live.

anyways home in like a week and a half for spring break. even with having a near blizzard last week its hard to think of spring but i'm getting quite excited to go home for a little and enjoy some nature that this smelly city (yesterday for some reason it was real smelly) does not have.
